Despite the fact that Mizoram is a small state in the north-eastern region of India, sandwiched between Myanmar on the east and Bangladesh on the west, the state of Mizoram boosts of a healthy literacy percentage of 82.27, the second highest in the nation among the States and the Union Territories.

As far as the present educational scenario of higher education is concerned, the state of Mizoram has the presence of Mizoram University, assisted by a number of vocational colleges spread across the Mizoram state.

At present, Mizoram University offers its programmes through its 27 under-graduate Colleges including 2 professional institutions affiliated to the University. The total roll-strength in these institutions is approximately 10,000 students.
