The College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry started functioning from 1997. The college is affiliated to Central Agricultural University and offering courses B.V.Sc and A.H.
The College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry is located at Selesih, North Aizawl that is about 12 km away from Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram.
The college attracts and provides education not only to the students of Mizoram but its education policies extend and cover to different north eastern hill states including the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura and Sikkim.

Academic Programmes:
Undergraduate Programmes The College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry is offering the degree course of Bachelor of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) since its inception. The College is fully adopting the Veterinary Council of India’s Minimum Standards for Veterinary Education (Five Years B.V.Sc. & A.H. Degree Course) Regulations-1993. The B.V.Sc. & A.H. Degree Programmes is spread over 10 semesters covering 188 Credit Hours including 6 (six) months Internship Programmes. At present, the total intake capacity is 43 students. However, it may increase further to 50 in near future with increasing demand from different NEH States.
Postgraduate Programmes The Academic Council and the Board of Management of Central Agricultural University, Imphal approved the introduction of Post-Graduate (Two Year M.V.Sc. degree) programmes under semester system of education in the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry from the academic session 2006-07 in 3 (three) selected disciplines, namely; (1) Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology, (2) Veterinary Surgery & Radiology and (3) Livestock Production & Management with an intake capacity of 2 (two) students in each discipline. The College may introduce Ph.D. programmes in the above three disciplines from the academic session 2008-09.
Departments:
Veterinary Biochemistry The Department of Veterinary Biochemistry imparts teaching and conducts research in comparative basic biochemistry of animals and birds and offers Courses spread in two academic years (4 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the first and fourth year of the degree programmes and offering supporting courses to postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) students.
Veterinary Anatomy & Histology The Department deals with the teaching and research on comparative gross and microscopic structures of body parts, organs and tissues of different species of animals and birds and offers 15 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (4 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the first two years of the degree programmes and supporting courses to postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) students.
Veterinary Physiology The department offers courses and conducts research in comparative physiology (functions of cells, organs and tissues) of different body systems of animals and birds. The Department offers 11 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (4 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the first two years of the degree programmes and is also offering supporting courses to postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) students.
Animal Nutrition The Department deals with the teaching and research on different areas of animal nutrition viz. nutritive values of feeds and fodder, nutritional requirements and computation of balance feeds for different species of animals and birds. The Department offers 10 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (2 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc.. & A.H. students during the second year of the degree programmes and is offering supporting courses to postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) students.
Livestock Production & Management The Department deals with husbandry, hygiene, housing and manage-mental practices of animals and birds and offers 19 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (5 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the first, third and fourth year of the degree programmes. The Departments is recognized for postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) degree programmes from the academic session 2006-07. Besides teaching, the Department is also involved in research in livestock and poultry husbandry.
Livestock Product Technology The Department covers the teaching of hygienic processing and value addition of meat and milk products and offers 6 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (3 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the third and fourth year of the degree programmes and supporting postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) courses. The Departments is undertaking research on value addition on meat and milk products.
Animal Breeding & Genetics The department deals with teaching and research on cytogenesis and population genetics and breeding of different species of animals and birds. The Department offers 10 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (5 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the first and second year of the degree programme and supporting postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) courses. The Department emphasizes in evolving new strains of animals suitable to agro-climatic conditions and socio-cultural requirements of NEH Region, conservation of important native germplasm and development of transgenic animals.
Veterinary Pathology The Department deals with the teaching and research on gross and cellular structural changes in tissues, pathogenesis, diagnosis and prognosis of diseases of different species of animals and birds and offers 11 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (4 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the second and third year of the degree programme. The Department is also offering supporting postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) courses.
Veterinary Microbiology The Department offers courses on different disease producing microbial pathogens viz. bacteria, viruses, fungi, rikettsiae, Chlamydia etc. affecting different species of animals and birds. The Department offers 12 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (4 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the second and third year of the degree programme and is offering supporting postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) courses. Besides teaching, the Department also undertakes research on various aspects of veterinary microbiology.
Veterinary Parasitology The Department deals with the teaching and research on different disease-producing endo and ectoparasites of animals and birds and their prevention (prophylaxis) and offers 10 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (4 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the second and third year of the degree programme and supporting postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) courses.
Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology The Department deals with the teaching and research on drugs, sources (Pharmacognosy), mechanism of action (Pharmacodynamics), fate in the body (Pharmacokinetics), uses (Pharmacotherapy) and their harmful effect (toxicology) and offers 12 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (4 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the third and fourth year of the degree programme. The Department is a Post-graduate department and offering M.V.Sc. degree programme from the academic session 2006-07. Post graduate course dept. is offering more than 50 credit courses. The department is working on many herbal and ethenoveterinary medicine in a systematic way and contributing in expansion of the knowledge in and about north eastern India. The Department is well equipped with HPLC, U.V.spectrophotometery, Flame Photometery and nearly all the instruments required for nervous system research.
Veterinary Public Health The Department undertakes teaching and research on milk and meat hygiene, diseases of public health and zoonotic importance and environmental hygiene and offers 8 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (3 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the third and fourth year of the degree programme and is offering supporting courses to postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) students.
Veterinary Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine The Department offers 6 Credit Hour Courses on veterinary epidemiology & preventive medicine spread in two academic years (3 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the fourth and fifth year of the degree programmes and supporting postgraduate courses for the M.V.Sc. degree programme. The Department also conducts research on surveillance, monitoring and forecasting of animals diseases.
Veterinary Clinical medicine, Ethics & Jurisprudence The Department deals with the teaching and research in different areas of clinical veterinary medicine and offers 5 Credit Hour Courses and 4 credit hours practical trainings spread in two academic years (2 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the fourth and fifth year of the degree programme. The Department is offering core and supporting postgraduate courses for the M.V.Sc. degree programmes.
Veterinary Surgery & Radiology The Department undertakes teaching and research in veterinary anesthesiology, regional and operative surgery and radiology and offers 7 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (3 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the fourth and fifth year of the degree programme. The Department is also offering the M.V.Sc degree programmes from the academic session 2006-07.
Animal Reproduction, Gynecology & Obstetrics The Department offers courses on various aspects of gynecology, obstetrics, andrology and artificial insemination. The Department offers 4 Credit Hour Courses spread in two academic years (2 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the fourth and fifth year of the degree programme and supporting postgraduate courses to the M.V.Sc. students. The Department is actively engaged in research on different areas of animals’ reproduction.
Veterinary & Animal Husbandry extension The Department deals with the teaching and research on various aspects of sociology and principles of animal husbandry extension, livestock economics, marketing and business management and extension techniques in veterinary practice and production and offers 7 Credit Hours Courses spread in two academic years (3 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the first and fourth year of the degree programme. The Department is offering supporting postgraduate courses to the M.V.Sc. students.
Teaching Veterinary Clinical Service Complex: The Department is a clinical teaching, training and service centre and deals with the clinical aspects of medicine, surgery and radiology and gynecology & obstetrics. The Department offers clinical oriented 24 Credit Hours Courses spread in two academic years (2 Semesters) to the B.V.Sc. & A.H. students during the fourth and fifth year of the degree programme. The Department is supporting clinical-based postgraduate courses to the M.V.Sc. students.
All the Departments are well-equipped with laboratory facilities to impart best training to the undergraduate and post-graduate students and to conduct advanced researches in the fields of animal production, animal and poultry products, animal healthcare and extension activities. Further, all the teaching Departments are evaluated by highly qualified, young and dynamic faculties who are tirelessly addressing the mission and mandate of the University and the College to achieve the targeted goals.
